LOVING THE LOST

Loving the Lost (1Thess.1:1-10)

Christian conversion happens:

1. When there are believers who are faithful to the gospel;
2. When there are believers who are willing to go;
3. When there are believers with real-life testimonies.

The dilemma of the modern-day church is the lack of converts despite its numerous programs and expensive instruments.  The church is expected to grow and mature wherever the Lord may place it.  As such happens when there are believers who are faithful to the gospel, willing to go and whose lives are truly living testimonies.

LOVING ONE ANOTHER

Loving One Another (John 13:34-35)

Love one another: A renewed commandment

~The commandment was not really new. The commandment to love was already known to the Jews. (Lev. 19:18)
~Why renewed? The renewed commandment here has an additional part, "as I have loved you." Not only will the discipline love others as himself, but also as the Lord loved us.
~We love our neighbors as we love ourselves but we love the brethren in the manner that the Lord loved us.

Love one another: The proof of discipleship

~The greatest test of discipleship is how we love one another.
~Let us not confuse edification with the pain of correction. When we edify (Eph. 4:29), we build up their faith the very moment we speak. When we rebuke and correct (Heb. 12:10-11), we hurt them for a meantime but help them have the fruit of righteousness.

The difference lies on how we show and practice love for one another. We are here to help one another succeed in the faith. We take careful action and speak careful words because we give special care to the brethren that we are entrusted to love.

THE SUPREME LOVE

The Supreme Love (John 3:16-21)

God's love is unconditional

~God’s love is universal — for all races and for all men.
~God’s love is the supreme love. He sent His begotten and only Son to die at the cross to make atonement for sin.

Man's salvation is conditional.

~Man’s response is obligatory.
~Obedience is man’s response to God’s love.

Love is a decision, a willing.  Even as the Lord exampled to us what true love is, we as his followers are compelled to be motivated on the same ground if we are to live a pleasing life.
