Love one another: A renewed commandment

~The commandment was not really new. The commandment to love was already known to the Jews. (Lev. 19:18)
~Why renewed? The renewed commandment here has an additional part, "as I have loved you." Not only will the discipline love others as himself, but also as the Lord loved us.
~We love our neighbors as we love ourselves but we love the brethren in the manner that the Lord loved us.

Love one another: The proof of discipleship

~The greatest test of discipleship is how we love one another.
~Let us not confuse edification with the pain of correction. When we edify (Eph. 4:29), we build up their faith the very moment we speak. When we rebuke and correct (Heb. 12:10-11), we hurt them for a meantime but help them have the fruit of righteousness.

The difference lies on how we show and practice love for one another. We are here to help one another succeed in the faith. We take careful action and speak careful words because we give special care to the brethren that we are entrusted to love.
